A local BJP worker, who also practices as a quack doctor, was arrested in Malda’s Habibpur area for allegedly attempting to rape a minor tribal student. The incident has triggered massive protests in the locality, with residents demanding exemplary punishment for the accused.

According to police sources, the accused reportedly lured the girl under the pretext of medical assistance and attempted to assault her. Hearing her cries, local villagers rushed to the spot and caught the man red-handed. The agitated crowd beat up the accused before alerting the police. While the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has slammed the BJP, calling it a party that shelters molesters, the BJP leadership has stated that they do not support any criminal activities and the law should take its course. The police have registered a case under relevant sections, including POCSO, and are further investigating the matter.
