Art Extravaganza in Shantiniketan! Iconic Works of Nandalal Bose & Ramkinkar Baij on Display

Shantiniketan is currently basking in the glow of a magnificent art festival at ‘Krittika Art Space.’ To celebrate the birth anniversary of the world-renowned artist and legendary professor of Kala Bhavana, K.G. Subramanyan, a special exhibition titled ‘Looking Back to Look Forward’ has been unveiled. Notably, the art space itself was named by Subramanyan, and this festival serves as a profound tribute to his enduring legacy.
The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to witness the evolution of Indian modern art across three generations. It features masterpieces by stalwarts like Acharya Nandalal Bose, Benode Behari Mukherjee, Ramkinkar Baij, Rani Chanda, and Dinkar Kaushik. A major highlight of the event is the showcase of Suren De’s sculptures, which are being exhibited together in public for the very first time—a landmark moment for art connoisseurs.
Beyond the classics, the exhibition also integrates the perspectives of contemporary artists, bridging the gap between tradition and modernity. The inaugural ceremony saw a gathering of luminaries, including Supriyo Tagore from the Tagore family, former Visva-Bharati Vice-Chancellor Sushanta Datta Gupta, and veteran journalist Dhruvajyoti Nandi. Open until February 25, this exhibition is a must-visit for anyone seeking to experience the soul of Shantiniketan’s artistic heritage.
