Netflix to Rename Movie ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ After Delhi HC Legal Intervention

The Delhi High Court has disposed of a petition seeking a ban on the streaming of the Netflix film ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’. During the hearing, Netflix assured the court that the film’s title would be changed and all related promotional material had already been scrubbed from social media platforms.
The Root of the Conflict: The petitioner had alleged that the title was defamatory and communally sensitive, targeting Hindu priests and a specific community. They argued that the content could incite social disharmony. Following Netflix’s commitment to revise the branding, the court saw no further reason for an injunction and closed the case.
Manoj Bajpayee’s Stance: Renowned actor Manoj Bajpayee, who stars in the film, addressed the backlash by stating that his role was an artistic portrayal of a flawed individual and not a commentary on any community. He emphasized that both he and director Neeraj Pandey take public sentiment seriously, which led to the decision to withdraw the initial promotional material.
