Odisha Train Accident: Chennai-New Jalpaiguri Express Derails Near Jajpur, Passengers Safe

Panic gripped passengers of the Chennai Central-New Jalpaiguri Superfast Express (22611) after three of its coaches derailed near Jakhapura railway station in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 8:50 AM on February 5, 2026. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the mishap.
Incident Details: The derailment took place while the train, en route from Bhubaneswar towards Kolkata/New Jalpaiguri, was shifting tracks near the station. One AC coach and two general compartments jumped the tracks. Railway officials confirmed that all passengers are safe and were immediately assisted by the local authorities and technical staff.
Restoration and Probe: A rescue and repair team from Bhadrak was dispatched to the site shortly after the alert. Engineering teams are working on a war footing to stabilize the coaches and clear the tracks for regular traffic. Senior railway officials, along with Jajpur Road Railway Police, are at the spot monitoring the situation. While the exact cause of the derailment is yet to be ascertained, a high-level inquiry has been ordered to investigate any technical or structural lapses.
