In a chilling case of child abuse and modern-day slavery, a 13-year-old girl was rescued from a residential house in Guwahati, Assam. The minor had been allegedly working as a domestic help for the past six years. During a surprise raid by the District Labor Task Force, the girl was found stashed inside a storage box of a bed, while the house owners were reportedly sleeping comfortably on the same bed.

The Rescue Operation: Acting on complaints from local residents, the Task Force conducted the raid on Sunday evening in the presence of a magistrate. A video of the rescue operation has gone viral on social media, showing officials uncovering the girl from the cramped compartment beneath the mattress. The sheer apathy of the employers has drawn severe criticism from netizens and child rights activists alike.

Legal Action and Status: While employing a minor as domestic help is strictly prohibited under Indian law, this case highlights a severe violation and brutal torture of child rights. Police sources stated that the family tried to hide the girl to evade the task force during the search. Legal proceedings have been initiated against the owners under the Child Labour Prohibition Act and relevant sections of the BNS.
