End of Ola-Uber Monopoly? Amit Shah to Launch ‘Bharat Taxi’ Today – Get Ready for Cheaper Rides!

A major disruption is set to hit the Indian ride-hailing market today. Union Minister for Cooperation, Amit Shah, will officially launch ‘Bharat Taxi’ on Thursday, February 5, 2026. This is India’s first-ever cab aggregator developed entirely on a ‘Cooperative Model,’ aimed at breaking the long-standing monopoly of private giants like Ola, Uber, and Rapido.
The Power of the Cooperative Model Operating under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002, Bharat Taxi is backed by eight major national cooperative societies. Unlike private players that prioritize profits, Bharat Taxi focuses on providing fair dividends to drivers and affordable, reliable rides to passengers. The foundation for this initiative was laid on June 6, 2025, and it has now matured into a full-scale national service.
Proven Success in Pilot Run Before the official nationwide rollout, Bharat Taxi underwent a rigorous two-month pilot phase starting December 2 in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat. The feedback from both drivers and commuters was overwhelmingly positive, paving the way for today’s grand launch.
Why Bharat Taxi is a Game Changer:
- No Surge Pricing: One of the biggest pain points for commuters—exorbitant surge pricing during peak hours—will be addressed with a more transparent and stable fare structure.
- Driver Empowerment: While private apps take a massive cut in commissions, Bharat Taxi ensures that drivers retain a significant portion of their earnings.
- Safety & Accountability: Being under government and cooperative oversight, the platform ensures high standards of safety and swift grievance redressal.
Expansion Roadmap 2028: Though the app began serving select parts of Delhi from January 1, the official launch today marks its aggressive expansion phase. The goal is to establish a presence in every state and city across India by 2028, ushering in a new era of cooperative transport.
