Things required for saffron farming:
- Saffron is considered a kind of “gold” among spices. It requires cool weather and dry climate to cultivate it. In terms of temperature, it should be around 17 degrees Celsius. In India, saffron is mainly cultivated in Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. However, now saffron cultivation has also started in Haryana and Uttarakhand.
- Loamy soil is considered the most suitable for saffron cultivation. The pH level of this soil should be between 6 and 8. The special thing is that saffron is not cultivated from seeds, but from bulbs i.e. Corms.
- It is considered appropriate to plant saffron tubers (bulbs) during the period of July to August. It is appropriate to plant the tubers at a distance of 10 to 15 cm from each other and at a depth of about 10 cm in the soil.
- The most important thing in this is not to let too much water enter the tubers, because this can cause them to rot and deteriorate. Irrigation should be done only as needed.
How to store saffron:
Saffron starts flowering in the months of October to November. Each flower has three red saffron threads (fibers). These flowers are plucked early in the morning and the saffron threads are separated from them. After this, these threads are dried well in the shade and then kept safe in airtight containers.
If you are cultivating saffron in an area of one acre, then it can cost you approximately Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 1,00,000. If you cultivate it properly and with proper supervision, then about 1 to 1.5 kg of saffron can be produced from one acre.
In terms of market price, the price of saffron is about Rs. 5 lakh per kg. That is, you can easily earn Rs. 5 to 7 lakh.

In cool and dry climates, especially in loamy soil, saffron tubers are planted in July-August. The flowers bloom in October-November and produce three precious threads of saffron.
