Man Suffers 35% Burns After Toilet Commode Explodes in Greater Noida

Noida: A 20-year-old man in Greater Noida sustained severe burns to 35% of his body after a toilet commode unexpectedly exploded while he was using the bathroom. The incident occurred to Ashu Nagar, a resident of Greater Noida. Surprisingly, Nagar was not using a mobile phone or any other electronic gadget at the time, and no other electrical appliances in the house were faulty.
According to a report from The Times of India, the explosion happened around 3 PM in Sector 6, House No. C-364, Noida, a few days ago.
Sunil Pradhan, the homeowner and Ashu’s father, stated that as his son flushed the toilet, the commode suddenly exploded with a loud bang.
Sunil reported that Ashu was seriously injured, particularly on his face and across his body. He was immediately taken to GIMS in Greater Noida, where doctors confirmed he had suffered 35% burns. Sunil reiterated that Ashu was not using a mobile phone during the incident.
An investigation into the cause of the explosion found that all other household electrical appliances, including the air conditioning, were working correctly, ruling out an electrical short circuit as the cause. However, the family suspects the incident may have been caused by a buildup of methane gas due to a blocked drainage system.
Harinder Bhatia, a local resident, stated that Greater Noida’s drainage system has been almost completely blocked for a long time, which could lead to gas formation. He mentioned that the drainage pipes are not only old but also haven’t been cleaned in many years, potentially causing gas to build up pressure and lead to an explosion.
However, A.P. Verma, Senior Manager at the Greater Noida Authority, stated that an investigation revealed the drainage system is completely clear and has no issues. He suggested the incident might have been caused by an internal problem within the house but did not elaborate on the specific nature of the problem.
