After Mother Dairy, Amul Hikes Milk Prices, Effective Today

Following Mother Dairy’s lead, Amul Dairy has announced a price hike for its milk products, effective from today, May 1, 2025. Amul revealed that prices across its range will increase by ₹2 per litre, impacting products like Amul Standard, Buffalo Milk, Gold, Slim and Trim, T Special, Taza, and Cow Milk. For instance, 500 ml of Buffalo Full Cream Milk, previously priced at ₹36, will now cost ₹37, while 1 litre rises from ₹71 to ₹73. “This adjustment was necessary to offset rising raw material costs,” an Amul spokesperson stated, addressing the economic pressures behind the decision.

Mother Dairy had already raised milk prices by up to ₹2 per litre starting April 30, 2025. Supplying around 35 lakh litres daily in the Delhi-NCR market, the company cited early summer heatwaves and escalating input costs as key factors. A Mother Dairy official explained, “We pass on 70-80% of our retail price to dairy farmers.” As a result, Toned Milk (bulk) has increased from ₹54 to ₹56 per litre, Full Cream Milk (pouch) from ₹68 to ₹69, and Cow Milk from ₹57 to ₹59. These consecutive hikes by two major dairy brands have sparked concerns among consumers.

The dual price surge is straining household budgets, particularly for low and middle-income families in Delhi-NCR. “Rising milk prices disrupt the common man’s budget,” said a local retailer, echoing the sentiments of many. With daily expenses climbing, calls for government intervention to regulate prices are growing louder. As dairy costs continue to rise, consumers brace for tougher financial choices in the months ahead.
