Now ATM in moving train: Indian Railways’ new initiative will make travel easier

Mumbai: Indian Railways has taken an unprecedented step for the convenience of passengers, under which now money can be withdrawn from ATM even in a moving train. Central Railways successfully tested ATM in AC Chair Car coach in Panchavati Express running between Manmad-Mumbai in collaboration with Bank of Maharashtra. This is the first initiative of its kind in India, which was launched on 15 April 2025.

The ATM has been installed in the rear of the coach with shutter doors for security. Swapnil Neela, Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, said, “This facility will be accessible to passengers of all 22 vestibule-connected coaches. If this experiment is successful, ATMs will be installed in other long distance trains as well.” This initiative will prove to be a boon especially for those passengers who face shortage of cash or inconvenience of online payment. Bhusaval DRM Iti Pandey said, “We are monitoring the network and technical performance.” This move is significant towards Digital India as well as meeting the needs of rural and long distance travellers. However, network issues in areas like Igatpuri-Kasara can be a challenge. This facility will make the travel of passengers not only safer but also more comfortable, adding a new chapter to the services of Indian Railways.
