Hunger for Mahindra’s electric SUV is out of control: Waiting period for XEV 9e and BE 6 reaches 6 months

New Delhi, April 10, 2025: Mahindra’s electric SUVs XEV 9e and BE 6 have created such a stir in the market that the hunger of customers is not stopping. The company recently revealed that more than 3,000 units of these two models have been delivered. But this popularity has now brought a new challenge—the waiting period for these vehicles has now been extended to 6 months. If you too are dreaming of bringing these high-tech electric vehicles to your garage, then be prepared, because the wait is going to be long. Let us know why the demand for these vehicles is increasing and how much patience you will have to have for delivery.
Storm of demand: 6 months of wait
These electric vehicles from Mahindra have won the hearts of customers since their launch. According to the company, 59% of the customers liked the XEV 9e, while 41% chose the BE 6. The special thing is that most of the buyers are preferring the top-spec variant ‘Pack Three’ of these vehicles. It is clear from this that people are not only moving towards electric mobility, but also want premium features and long range.
The result of this increasing demand is that the waiting period in some states has now reached 6 months. A Delhi dealer said, “Customers ask every day when the car will be available. The demand for the top variant is so much that we are also having to think about taking bookings.” The company started deliveries from March 2025, and has put more than 3,000 vehicles on the roads so far, but this figure is falling short of the demand.
XEV 9e: A great combination of luxury and range
Mahindra XEV 9e is an electric SUV that offers an unmatched combination of style and performance. It has a 79kWh battery, which claims a range of 656 km as per the MIDC cycle. However, in real-world tests, it can cover a distance of more than 500 km. If you want to buy it on a low budget, a variant with a 59kWh battery is also available, which runs up to 542 km on a single charge.
Its price starts at Rs 21.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 30.50 lakh for the top variant. Sanjay Verma, a customer from Noida, said, “I have booked the top model of XEV 9e. Its triple-screen display and 16-speaker sound system impressed me. But now waiting for 6 months seems a bit difficult.” This vehicle is giving tough competition to rivals like Tata Harrier EV not only in terms of range but also in terms of features. BE 6: Powerful performance at an affordable price
At the same time, Mahindra BE 6 is perfect for those who want to enjoy electric driving at an affordable price. Its 79kWh battery variant has a range of 682 km (MIDC), which puts it at the forefront of the segment. On the other hand, the model with 59kWh battery can cover a distance of up to 557 km. Its price starts from Rs 18.90 lakh to Rs 26.90 lakh (ex-showroom).
Priya Shinde, a teacher from Mumbai, said, “I booked BE 6 because it was in my budget and the range is also great. But now I came to know that I will have to wait till July for delivery. Still, looking at its features and performance, this waiting seems reasonable.” Features like BE 6’s dual-screen setup and level-2 ADAS make it stronger than Tata Curve EV and MG ZS EV.
Why is the waiting period increasing?
Both these Mahindra vehicles are built on the INGLO platform, which is specially designed for electric vehicles. They have 175kW fast charging support, which charges the battery from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes. Apart from this, features like Harman Kardon sound system, panoramic sunroof and auto-parking in premium variants are attracting customers.
Automotive expert Rahul Mehta says, “Mahindra has created the right balance of technology and economy in these vehicles. But the production is still less than the demand. The plant with an annual capacity of 90,000 units in Chakan was ready by March 2025, but it seems that the company will have to increase it further.”
What does it mean for customers?
If you book XEV 9e or BE 6 today, you may have to wait till July-August 2025 for delivery. Due to high demand for top variants, the delivery of Pack Three started first, but now the turn of the rest of the variants is also about to come. Mahindra started booking in February 2025, and on the first day itself, more than 30,000 orders were received, which clearly shows its strong hold.
Way forward
This success of Mahindra is writing a new chapter in the Indian electric vehicle market. But the increasing waiting period is also a challenge for the company. Will Mahindra be able to quench this hunger by increasing production? This question is in the mind of every customer who is eagerly waiting for these vehicles. For now, if you are thinking of buying one of these vehicles, then book quickly, otherwise the wait may be longer.
