Frequent urination in summer: Is this a sign of a serious disease? Doctor warns

New Delhi: Summer is at its peak, and in this season, toxins are released from the body through sweat. Usually, the amount of urine decreases during this time, as the body tries to conserve water. But if you feel the need to go to the toilet frequently even in summer, then do not take it lightly. Experts say that this is not a normal thing, but can be a symptom of many serious health problems. From UTI to diabetes, there can be many reasons behind this. Let’s know what doctors say about this and when you need to be alert.
Misconception of drinking more water
It is natural to increase water intake in summer. Most people think that frequent urination is the result of this. But Delhi urologist Dr. Sanjay Mehra disproves this notion. He says, “When the body needs water, it stores it instead of expelling it. If despite this you have to go to urinate every hour or half an hour, then this is not normal. It can be a sign of some imbalance or disease in the body.” According to Dr. Mehra, ignoring this problem can be costly.
Urinary tract infection (UTI)
The most common reason for frequent urination in summer can be urinary tract infection i.e. UTI. This problem is especially seen more in women. Its symptoms include burning sensation during urination, mild fever and frequent need to go to the toilet. Dr. Anita Sharma, who is a general physician, says, “Due to sweat in summer, the risk of bacteria growth increases. If not treated on time, this infection can reach the kidneys.”
Early sign of diabetes
If you are feeling the urge to urinate every half an hour, then this can also be an early symptom of diabetes. Due to increased blood sugar level in diabetes, the body tries to expel excess glucose through urine. Dr. Mehra says, “Such patients often feel more thirsty, but do not get relief even after drinking water. If there is a history of diabetes in the family, then get it checked immediately.”
Adverse effects of dehydration
This may sound strange, but dehydration can also cause frequent urination. In summers, when there is a lack of water in the body, the urine comes in thick and less quantity, due to which the bladder becomes active again and again. Dr. Sharma explains, “Many times people think that they are drinking enough water, but in summer it gets completely used up due to sweating. In such a situation, the problem of urination can increase.”
Bladder and prostate problems
Sometimes overactive bladder or prostate gland problems in men can also be the reason for this. When the prostate enlarges, there is pressure on the urethra, due to which urine is not completely emptied and there is a need to go again and again. Dr. Mehra warns, “This problem is common in men above 40 years of age. If there is obstruction or pain in urination, then it is necessary to contact the doctor.” When to consult a doctor?
Frequent urination in summer is not a disease in itself, but a sign. But if symptoms like burning sensation, fever, excessive thirst or weakness are seen along with it, then do not ignore it. Dr. Sharma advises, “First keep an eye on your water intake and symptoms. If there is no improvement in 2-3 days, then get a urine test and blood sugar test done.”
Precaution is the only prevention
To avoid this problem in summer, it is important to drink enough water, take care of cleanliness and avoid sugar-rich drinks. Dr. Mehra says, “A little precaution can save you from big trouble. Listen to the body in summer, because it itself tells that something is wrong.”
So next time if you have a complaint of frequent urination in summer, do not consider it an excuse of excess water. It can be an alarm of your body, which must be understood in time.
