First in India! 70% Job Reservation Bill Passed

In a landmark move, the Telangana Congress government has increased job and education reservations from 50% to 70%, surpassing the Supreme Court’s prescribed limit. On Tuesday, under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the Telangana Assembly passed a crucial bill to enhance reservations for backward communities.

The bill increases reservations for Backward Classes from 29% to 42%, Scheduled Castes from 15% to 18%, and Scheduled Tribes from 6% to 10%. If implemented, only 30% of jobs will remain unreserved. However, as the Supreme Court has set a 50% cap on reservations, Telangana may face legal hurdles in enforcing the new law. CM Revanth Reddy called this move a “historic step for social justice,” fulfilling a long-standing demand of backward communities. Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi also praised the decision.
