Driver’s Reckless Driving Kills Woman in Vadodara; Four Injured

A tragic incident occurred on the night before Holi in Vadodara, Gujarat, where a young man’s reckless driving led to the death of a woman and injuries to four others. The victims’ conditions remain critical. A video of the incident surfaced, showing several individuals, including a woman and a child, lying on the road, while a car with an open bonnet was seen nearby. The young driver, later identified as 20-year-old Rakshit Chourasia from Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi, got out of the car and claimed that his friend was driving. As the situation escalated, he shouted, “Another round!” and even yelled “Om Namah Shivaya.”
The accident occurred in the Karelibaug area, where Rakshit’s car collided with several scooters before coming to a halt. Local residents caught him and handed him over to the police after a severe beating. During questioning, he admitted to being intoxicated while driving. Rakshit claimed that he had been drinking and was unable to see clearly after his car’s airbags deployed when it hit a pothole. Following the incident, netizens expressed outrage over his casual demeanor while talking to the media after causing the death of a woman.
The deceased woman has been identified as Hemaliben Patel, and the injured victims include 12-year-old Zaini, 35-year-old Nishaben, and a 10-year-old child along with a 40-year-old man. The police have confirmed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, and Rakshit has been taken into custody. The police are continuing their investigation into the case.
