Engineer Turned Cab Driver: The Inspiring Journey of Dipta Ghosh

Dipta Ghosh, a software engineer, has made an unexpected shift in her career. Once an aspiring tech professional, she now steers the wheel of her own cab, taking passengers through the bustling streets of Kolkata. A graduate of Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College, Dipta holds a B.Tech in Software Engineering and had also completed a diploma in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering. Despite the promising career in tech, Dipta had always been determined not to leave her home state of Bengal for work.
Her decision stemmed from a deep commitment to her family, especially after the passing of her father, who had spent most of his life working outside Bengal. Dipta wanted to stay close to her mother and younger sister, who depended on her. Although she could have easily joined a tech company in Kolkata, she was not ready to face the potential transfers that would keep her away from her loved ones. Instead, she opted for a more personal route—driving an app-based cab to support her family while staying close to home.
Today, Dipta’s car, with the registration number WB 05-8198, is a familiar sight on Kolkata’s streets. Despite facing challenges and a few rough encounters with passengers, she has no regrets about her decision. Dipta finds a sense of fulfillment in working independently, taking pride in not having to leave her family behind. Her story is one of resilience, showing that success can take many forms, and happiness often lies in staying true to one’s roots.
