Huge Prize Money Disparity Between IPL and WPL

The 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) final is set to take place on Saturday, March 15, between Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur, Mumbai Indians will be looking to clinch their second title. In the inaugural season of WPL, Mumbai defeated Delhi to win the championship. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals, led by Meg Lanning, will be playing their third consecutive final, aiming for their first-ever title.
However, while the WPL 2025 season is generating excitement, there is a stark contrast when it comes to prize money between the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and the Indian Premier League (IPL). The IPL champions take home a massive prize of ₹20 crores, with the runners-up receiving ₹13 crores. In contrast, the winning team of the WPL 2025 season will receive ₹6 crores, while the runner-up gets ₹3 crores. This significant gap highlights the disparity in financial rewards between the men’s and women’s leagues.
