The IPL Rule That Has Never Been Used in 17 Years

Since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL), there has been a particular rule in place that has never been used in the last 17 years. As the new season approaches, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has once again reminded teams about this unused rule. The rule allows a team to temporarily replace a player from the Registered Player Pool (RPP) for a limited time during the season.
This rule would be applicable in cases where a team’s players, such as wicketkeepers, get injured. In such a situation, the team can bring in a replacement from the RPP, who will be allowed to play until the injured player recovers. However, the replacement player can only participate for a short period and will not play throughout the tournament. The BCCI has sent out a list of players in the RPP and reminded teams about the process, ensuring they are prepared if the need arises.
