The incident occurred after Shailendra sought the return of expensive gifts, including gold jewelry and cash worth lakhs, which he had given during their relationship. According to reports, the couple had been living together in Hamirpur for several years before their relationship soured. Shailendra alleges that his ex-partner began distancing herself from him and eventually became involved with someone else, leading to the breakdown of their bond.

On the fateful day, Shailendra visited their rented house to retrieve his belongings but was confronted by the woman and her three associates—Sadaib Beg, Deepak, and Happy. He claims they physically assaulted him and coerced him into consuming poison. Left in critical condition, he was later found and rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
