Extra Fee for Tourists Entering Sikkim

Extra Fee for Tourists Entering Sikkim

Sikkim, a favorite destination for travelers from Bengal and across the globe, is now introducing an additional charge for tourists entering the state. The new rule has sparked mixed reactions, with many visitors expressing dissatisfaction. From now on, anyone entering Sikkim will have to pay an extra fee of ₹50 per person. According to the state government, this money will be used to improve tourism infrastructure and services in the region. The funds collected will support road development, cleanliness drives, and overall maintenance of facilities to enhance the travel experience.

Tourists won’t need to pay this fee upon entry into the state; instead, it will be collected during hotel check-ins. Children under five years old and individuals visiting for official government work are exempt from this charge. For ₹50, tourists can stay in Sikkim for up to 30 days. If they extend their stay beyond that period, they will need to pay the fee again. While the initiative aims to boost local infrastructure, some fear it might deter budget travelers who frequently visit the picturesque state.
