Illegal parking has brought traffic movement almost to a standstill in the Bhawanipur area of Kolkata during daytime. Rows of cars parked illegally on both sides of major roads have severely impacted daily commuters and pedestrians alike. The worst affected roads include Ramesh Mitra Street, Townsend Road, Padmapukur Road, Chakraberia Road, and Shambhunath Pandit Street to Ashutosh Mukherjee Road. Due to the increasing inconvenience faced by residents and pedestrians, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation has sought urgent intervention from the Lalbazar Police Headquarters. The municipal parking department has already written to the Deputy Police Commissioner (Traffic) requesting immediate action to control unauthorized parking. Though the responsibility of managing daytime parking lies with the police, municipal officials allege that adequate measures are yet to be taken by the authorities.
