Mob Surrounds Mosque After Shopkeeper Harasses Hindu Teen

A shocking incident of harassment took place in the Gidam area of Dantewada district in Chhattisgarh, sparking public outrage. A 15-year-old Hindu girl and her 13-year-old brother visited a shop to repair a watch owned by Mohammad Rafiq Khan. Instead of providing service, Khan allegedly showed the teenager obscene videos and exposed himself, making lewd gestures. Terrified, the siblings fled the scene and informed their mother about the horrifying encounter. Upon learning about the incident, the victim’s father, along with local leaders like Rajnish Surana, the Gidam Nagar Panchayat president, confronted Khan at his shop. However, they discovered that he had taken refuge in a nearby mosque.
Enraged by the shopkeeper’s actions, a large crowd surrounded the mosque where Khan was believed to be hiding. Sensing trouble, Khan managed to escape before authorities arrived. The angry mob later blocked NH-63, causing significant traffic congestion and tension in the area. Police intervened within three hours to control the situation. According to Bijay Patel, the officer-in-charge of Gidam police station, Rafiq Khan was traced using his phone’s location and arrested near Bijapur Road. The victim’s family has filed an FIR, and law enforcement officials, including Dantewada City Kotwali Station House Officer Dhannanjay Sinha and SDOP Kamaljeet Patle, are handling the case to ensure justice is served.
