The government of Bangladesh has identified 3399 Indians as illegal immigrants. If they do not return to the country by this month, they will be pushed back through legal channels, said the Home Ministry in Dhaka.

Apart from India, the list includes the names of China, Pakistan, Nepal and the Philippines.

The Bangladesh government said that 1,099 of the illegal immigrants are Chinese citizens. Nepal, Pakistan and the Philippines have 376, 140 and 131 respectively.

Three months ago, the Bangladesh government had issued a notification stating that illegal immigrants will have to leave the country by March 31. At that time, the number of such foreign nationals was 49,265.

Between November 18 and March 6, 43,168 foreign nationals have returned. The Bangladesh government’s Home Ministry said that a fine of Tk 402.7 million has been collected from them. In November last year, the Bangladesh High Court ordered the government to identify and deport illegal immigrants in a case.
