286 Voters Missing from a Single Booth! Violent Protests Erupt in Joynagar, Women Hit Streets with Brooms

Tensions flared up in Joynagar, South 24 Parganas, following the publication of the revised electoral roll, which revealed that 286 voters’ names had disappeared from a single booth. The incident turned Joynagar Block 2 into a virtual battlefield on Tuesday morning as local residents staged a massive protest.

According to local sources, Booth No. 252 at Bamner Chawk previously had 1,058 voters. However, the new list excluded 286 individuals, including 154 women and 132 men. Affected residents claimed that despite holding valid IDs and voting for years, their names were deliberately removed.

In a dramatic show of dissent, local women took to the streets with brooms and shoes, blocking Bele Road and burning tyres. Protesters alleged a “conspiracy to snatch democratic rights” due to the negligence of Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Although a large police force arrived to restore order, the villagers remained firm, demanding the immediate reinstatement of their names in the voter list. The incident has triggered a political row just ahead of the upcoming polls.
