26/11 Redux? Lashkar Plotting Deadly Infiltration via Sea Route; Intelligence Issues High Alert!
New Delhi has been put on high alert following credible intelligence reports suggesting that the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) is planning a major infiltration bid via the sea route. Recalling the horrific 2008 Mumbai attacks, intelligence agencies have warned that the terrorist organization is once again eyeing India’s vast coastline to execute a high-profile strike. Security across India’s western and southern maritime borders has been bolstered significantly in response to these threats.
According to the latest inputs, specialized “marine cells” of the LeT are undergoing rigorous training in the coastal regions of Sindh and Karachi in Pakistan. These operatives are being trained to use small boats, merchant vessels, or fishing trawlers to bypass naval cordons and enter Indian waters unnoticed. The Indian Navy and the Coast Guard have intensified patrolling and aerial surveillance using drones and satellite imagery to detect any suspicious movements in the deep sea.
National security experts suggest that the timing of this potential threat is critical, possibly aiming to disrupt upcoming high-profile international events or festivals. The Ministry of Home Affairs has coordinated with coastal states to sensitize the local fishing communities, often referred to as the “eyes and ears” of coastal security. While India’s maritime defense has evolved drastically since 2008, the sheer audacity of the LeT’s renewed preparations has compelled the security establishment to maintain a zero-tolerance posture.
