Vaibhav Suryavanshi, the 14-year-old batting sensation and hero of India’s Under-19 World Cup triumph, has become the talk of the town ahead of the IPL 2026 season. Known for his aggressive batting style and ability to clear the ropes with ease, Vaibhav is being hailed as the next big thing in Indian cricket. However, former Indian opener Robin Uthappa has voiced his concerns regarding the immense pressure being put on the teenager.

While praising Vaibhav’s natural flair, Uthappa cautioned that the glitz and glamour of the IPL might be premature for someone so young. “At 14, a player is still in their formative years. The massive financial contracts and public scrutiny that come with the IPL can be overwhelming,” Uthappa noted. He expressed fear that the lack of a traditional developmental path could lead to burnout or technical flaws. Uthappa’s advice to the cricket board and Vaibhav’s family is to nurture him carefully and protect him from the harsh spotlight of professional league cricket until he is mentally more mature.
