₹8000 Coupons for Appliances and ₹2000 for Women! Stalin Unveils DMK’s ‘Superstar’ Manifesto

With the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026 around the corner, Chief Minister and DMK President M.K. Stalin has unveiled a high-decibel election manifesto, calling it the “Heroine” of the upcoming polls. The focus is squarely on women empowerment and household welfare, with the introduction of the path-breaking ‘Illatharasi Scheme’.
Under this scheme, every woman head of the family who is not an income-tax payer will receive a one-time coupon worth ₹8,000. This coupon can be redeemed at local stores to purchase or replace essential household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, or induction stoves. Furthermore, the DMK has committed to doubling the monthly financial assistance for women under the existing scheme from ₹1,000 to ₹2,000.
The political battle intensifies as AIADMK has also promised free refrigerators and a ₹2000 monthly allowance in its manifesto. However, Stalin’s coupon-based approach is being seen as a more flexible and tech-savvy alternative. Beyond freebies, the DMK manifesto outlines a vision for the next decade, promising 10 lakh new houses to make Tamil Nadu “hut-free” by 2030 and creating 50 lakh jobs. As the state heads to polls on April 23, the battle of the manifestos has officially turned into a high-stakes welfare war.
